10 month baby shot dead amid rape orgy in Ra Bai La

December 6, 2016

Tatmadaw shot dead a 10 month infant child and two elderly men as they continued to press on the village tract of Ra Bai La on Tuesday. In the early morning hours, they entered the area and finding two elderly men in front of their houses fired at them. Then they killed the infant child. All the other men had escaped in advance as any male in the village tract is getting shot.

Around six hundred soldiers entered the restive village tract, with sources claiming the number of raiders getting bigger by the day. They herded more than a hundred women out of their homes, took them to an open field, forced them to strip and sexually molested them. Some of the women were taken out of the village towards the hills and raped.

Many of the women from the area have told our correspondents they immediately need abortion pills.

Earlier the Tatmadaw had done the same thing i.e. gathering the women in the fields of Ra Bai La and Sa Li Frang and forced them to strip and then assaulted them. The practise has been continuing since December 1. Very few women left in the area have escaped the humiliation of the Tatmadaw. In some cases, the Tatmadaw after committing the rapes pushed their weapons into the private parts of their victims. Many of the women are in critical condition and some of them are likely to die.

Ra Bai La and Sa Li Frang, along with the nearby villages of Bor Gazi Bil and Sor Gazi Bil were hit with helicopters, rocket launchers and machine guns on November 12 and 13 after protesters armed with sticks stopped a Tatmadaw team from carrying out rapes. The attacks killed around 150 Rohingyas in the area, including women and children. Many of the children were also thrown into the fire.

Tatmadaw also raided Shil Khali in Maungdaw North where they apprehended 13 people and brutally tortured them in public.

The army entered the Nayapara neighbourhood of the village tract at around 8am on Sunday, continuously firing in the air. They searched the area and arrested the men, who were hiding outside their houses.

The men were then brutally tortured for two hours without any interruption. The torture was done in the open spaces but locals did not witness the incident because they were all in hiding. Their cries could however be heard from a distance.

Sources however claim at least 5 of the arrested men are in critical condition after being tortured.

At the same time, locals who fled to the direction of the hills following the Tatmadaw raid have seen three dead bodies lying in the wilderness. The identities of the corpses have not been confirmed. The eyewitnesses did not approach the corpses but fled to a different place in fear of the military.

Tatmadaw also launched a huge raid in Kunir Khali on Monday. Since then all the male members of the community are in hiding.

In Bangladesh, an unidentified corpse washed ashore in the direction of Teknaf port on Tuesday noon, giving rise to fears another boat of escapees have been killed by security forces. On Sunday night, more than 30 people were killed when Hlun Htein opened fire on their boat. It is not known whether they are victims from the same incident as the incident took place in Raimba Guna, which is a bit far from Teknaf port.

While there are many cases of escaping Rohingyas being killed on the Naf river, it is difficult to confirm as there are no survivors left and there are few people on the river who can act as eyewitnesses.
