A Rohingya man is in a critical condition following merciless assault by Tatmadaw personal on Thursday near Boli Bazar in Maungdaw North.
Md Yunus went out of the village to fish but was intercepted by the Tatmadaw. He was hit in the head and the face. The soldiers left him in an unconscious state.
He was later rescued by locals. Latest reports say his condition shows little signs of improvement and there are fears he might succumb to his injuries.
Many Rohingya villages are under blockade and anyone going out of the locality to catch fish or collect wood are assaulted or apprehended by security forces. As most Rohingyas must go out of the village for their livelihoods, it means the families must starve when they are under blockade.
Rohingya activists have long alleged the blockade of their settlements are part of a well devised strategy to create artificial food shortages and force the Muslims to migrate to Bangladesh.
